The Oppo R7 has been announced by the end of last month due to the 10-year anniversary of Oppo. The device basically is a slightly thicker re-make of the Oppo R5 that aims at eliminating all flaws the uber-thin phone. The Oppo R7 comes in two flavors with a small device and a larger Oppo R7 Plus. The Oppo R7 is now available for pre-order and scheduled to ship soon, time to have a closer look at the device which kindly has been provided to us by Oppo in cooperation with OppoStyle. Now we’ve been a little surprised while unboxing the smartphone. It didn’t came in the typical retail Oppo packaging we all know, but just in a paper-box instead. Well, probably that’s due to the fact this isn’t the final product yet.

Now before we have a closer look at the Oppo R7, let us just quickly tell you about its specs. The R7 is slightly thicker than the R5 at 6.3mm, but still, that’s one very impressive thickness. Impressive as well is the fact that Oppo established a new record with the body of the phone that consists of metal for 92.3%. Despite the thin body they managed to squeeze quite some specs inside of there which includes a Snapdragon 615 SoC with 3GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, 16GB of internal memory with micro SD expansion, a 2,300mAh battery with VOOC flash charging and a 13 mega pixel Samsung ISOCELL camera. Dual-SIM support is present as well and the whole thing runs on ColorOS 2.1 which unfortunately is still based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat here.

So what about our first impressions? Well, as far as design goes, Oppo did an impressive job here. The body is extremely slim yet still leaves a sturdy impression and feels very nice in the hand which, let’s face it, often is an issue with such thin devices. The screen isn’t bad neither, the AMOLED technology offers stunning colors and a much better contrast ratio than any LCD panel could offer. The Snapdragon 615 doesn’t perform too bad as well, not as fast as the MT6752, but similar. Another impressive part is the internal speaker, which does offer an impressive amount of bass for such a thin device. But well, Oppo is known for good hi-fi performance. Make sure to stay tuned for our full review to learn more about the Oppo R7.
